WorldSkills Competition

The 44th WorldSkills Competition will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, AbuDhabi, United Arab Emirates in 15-18 October 2017.

 

Official Send-off Ceremony

On the 29 September 2017, the Deputy President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, will hold a send-off Ceremony at The Lakes Hotel from 9:30am to 1:30pm to wish all Competitors well for the upcoming World Skills Competition in Abu Dhabi. A send-off will also be planned for 10 October 2017 at OR. Tambo International Airport, on the day Competitors depart for Abu Dhabi. More details to follow.

5-7 September 2017: The WorldSkills South Africa team planned to visit the various Training Centres in Durban and Pietermaritzburg to interview and capture live footage of our Competitors who are preparing for the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi in October. View video

 

Second Team Building Programme

An exciting weekend planned at Misty Hills Country Hotel and Conference Centre. The 2nd Team Building programme will be attended by all Competitors, National Experts and Officials on the 25-27 August 2017.

1-4 August 2017: The WorldSkills South Africa team planned to visit the various Training Centres in Western Cape to interview and capture live footage of our Competitors who are preparing for the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi in October. Appointments secured with the following:

  • Northlink TVET College at Tyberberg Campus (IT Network Systems Competitor);
  • CK Coachworks Training Centre in Tokai (AutoBody Repair Competitor);
  • International Hotel School in Cape Town (Restaurant Services Competitor);
  • Plum Operating Systems in Cape Town (IT Software Solutions for Business Competitor);
  • Kobot Engineering (CNC Turning Competitor); and
  • Northlink TVET College at Belhar Campus (Plumbing and Heating Competitor).

20-21 July 2017: The WorldSkills South Africa team planned to visit the various Training Centres in Johannesburg to interview and capture live footage of our Competitors who are preparing for the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi in October. Appointments secured with the following:

  • FESTO in Isando (Mechatronics and Aquatronics Competitors);
  • Tshwane University of Technology (Mobile Robotics Competitors);
  • Ranjesfontein in Midrand (Beauty Therapy Competitor);
  • Lincoln Electrical in Midrand (Electrical Installations Competitor);
  • Bosch Training Centre in Midrand (AutoMobile Technology);
  • Germiston (Dry Wall and Plastering Competitor); and
  • Cornright Motors in Midrand (Spray Painting Competitor).
 

World Youth Skills Day - Team Building Weekend

14-16 July 2017:

In conjunction with World Youth Skills Day, 15 July 2017, the WorldSkills South Africa team are supporting #SkillsForAll through launching a Team Building and Development programme this weekend at The Team Building Institute in Pretoria.

This prodigious initiative is aimed at preparing the 22 competitors for the World Skills International Competition set to take place in Abu Dhabi from 15-18 October 2017.

Competitors will use this opportunity to prepare mentally, physically and psychologically for the showdown in Abu Dhabi as well as begin to establish a positive team culture and get to know each other.
